Downstait, the band who performs Cody Rhodes’ Kingdom theme song, have revealed how much input Cody had in the song.
Cody has used his now iconic ‘Kingdom’ theme song ever since his first matches outside of WWE after he requested his release back in 2016.
The lyrics told the story of Cody’s career up to that point, and remain linked to him in WWE today after two Royal Rumble victories.
Taking to Twitter, Downstait were asked about Cody’s input into the song, and if he had pitched any specific words to be featured.
They responded:
He said he liked the message of BMTH’s Throne (f___ you then, watch me shine), and wanted lyrics that reflected his relationship with Dusty. While many interpret “You took my dreams, but not my name” as a shot at WWE, it also represents life taking Dusty, but not Cody’s identity.
The song has found a lot of success following Cody’s WWE return in 2o22, with the song recently hitting 40 million streams.
