AEW Star On ‘Proving WWE Wrong’ With Cody Rhodes Match AEW

Wrestling legend Dustin Rhodes may be near to calling time on his in-ring career but his latest run with Tony Khan’s AEW has been ranked among the best of his 35-year legacy in the wrestling business.

In a recent interview with The Wrestling Perspective Podcast, via Fightful Select (subscription required) Rhodes would detail the AEW match that made him fall back in love with pro-wrestling.

Rhodes would reflect on his brother vs brother showdown with Cody Rhodes at AEW’s seminal PPV Double or Nothing 2019 as the moment his “passion” for wrestling returned.

He would also detail the importance of the match in proving doubters wrong at his former employer WWE.

According to Rhodes, he originally wanted the match to happen at WWE’s grandest stage however, he was told the match “was not good enough for WrestleMania”.

Rhodes revealed how he was “pissed about it not happening”, but following the match taking place at Double or Nothing “they proved them [WWE] wrong”.

While Cody is of course now back in WWE, Dustin has remained in AEW, however, he has been keeping an eye on his brother’s progression.

Dustin would recently join in on the discussion regarding Cody’s loss to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, revealing his potentially surprising opinion on his brother’s loss, which you can read more about here.
