Eddie Edwards ‘Proud’ Of IMPACT Wrestling’s No-Crowd Pandemic Shows (Exclusive)

Former IMPACT Wrestling World Champion Eddie Edwards recently spoke to WrestleTalk’s Tempest, where he spoke highly of how the company handled wrestling during the pandemic era.

Edwards told WrestleTalk:

“(The pandemic) was such a big thing in wrestling, it was unheard of, it was an unprecedented time for us, for anybody, for the world obviously. Obviously there were struggles and it was difficult at times, but I look back on it fondly. First and foremost, it makes you miss those fans, obviously we always want the fans there and we’re always happy to have the fans, but you never know what you have until it’s taken away from you. We had no fans and we’re going out there and honestly, some of the best IMPACT Wrestling – some of the best wrestling matches – I saw, were in front of no people in Nashville Studios.

“I’m proud of what IMPACT Wrestling did during that time. I look back on it and I feel like it helped everybody kinda grow. It helped everybody revive, renew that energy when that crowd came back – it was like that spark. It’s like when you’re out there and that adrenaline kicks in, it’s just something different.

“I’m proud of what we did during the pandemic, and I’m proud – I was the World Champion at the time, it was something that I was proud to do, it was such an uncertain time for myself to be able to say I was the World Champion during the pandemic. It was a lot of pressure but I was happy to do it and I’m proud to say that I was able to do it at the time. I’m glad the pandemic is coming to an end, but I’m glad we’re back on the road, I’m glad – I’m stoked – that we have the fans back, and they’ve been great since we’ve been back on the road.”

Edwards continued on, speaking about how he was tasked with being the IMPACT World Champion during the pandemic. He said:

“It’s like a nice nod, a nice pat on the back, like, ‘The company believes in you’. ‘You’re gonna be our guy’, again, these times are unprecedented, we don’t know what’s going on, we don’t know how long it’s gonna last, we don’t know what’s gonna happen, but they wanted me to be the guy at the forefront of that. And I’m proud to represent IMPACT any time I can, anywhere I go, everywhere I go I represent IMPACT Wrestling, and to be able to be the man holding the World Title, when people are home, people are watching, people are checking out what’s going on.

“The night that I won it there was a lot of commotion, there was a lot of hype, there was a lot of things going into Slammiversary. There’s new guys coming in, there’s the Good Brothers coming in, Eric Young’s coming back, there was a lot of hype and a lot of eyes on the show, and to be able to be the one to close out the pay-per-view with that belt alongside the Good Brothers inside that ring, it was the most of those special moments that I do look back fondly about the pandemic.

“It was something that, you know, who knows what would have happened if the pandemic wasn’t going on, but it was, and I was happy to be the man to try to take us through the pandemic as long as we could. I’m happy to be that guy.”
