The first NJPW Strong Openweight Championship match has been revealed, with the finals of the New Japan Cup USA set.
The New Japan Cup USA has been taking place on NJPW Strong throughout April. Brody King will face Tom Lawlor in the finals, with NJPW gold on the line.
King defeated Chris Dickinson and Lio Rush to reach the final 2. Lawlor bested Ren Narita and Hikuleo to join King in the finals.
It was previously announced that the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship will be awarded to the New Japan Cup USA winner. This final match will take place on the April 23 episode of NJPW Strong.
This will not be the first new NJPW champion crowned this month. At Sakura Genesis, Ospreay defeated Kota Ibushi to become the second ever IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
Will Ospreay leads the NJPW faction The United Empire. The Young Bucks have recently compared AEW’s booking of factions with NJPW’s in a recent interview.
