Former WWE Star Reacts To Retirement Reports

A former WWE star has reacted to reports that they are retired from wrestling following a recent podcast quote.

Former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella last competed in a match in March 2023, just before she announced that she was pregnant with her and Corey Graves’ first child.

Carmella’s contract with WWE would then expire in February 2025, with her departing the company.

Carmella Responds To Reports She Is Retired

Carmella has now gone three years without competing in a match, and recently spoke on her Hot Mom Sh!t podcast, where she claimed that she was retired from wrestling.

She said:

“I’m retired now… I was a professional wrestler. I can’t wrestle anymore. I’m a mom. I have kids. So that’s kind of like, I’m retired.”

The quote has made the rounds on social media today, and Carmella herself has now clarified the quote.

Responding to the report, Carmella questioned where the reports were coming from, noting that she had been retired since she was pregnant with her first son, though she could always come out of retirement.

She said:

lol idk where this is all coming from. I’ve been retired since I got pregnant with Dimitri. Doesn’t mean I can’t come out of retirement though….

Carmella’s husband Corey Graves remains with WWE, with him serving as the colour commentator for Monday Night Raw and the lead announcer for AAA.

Carmella will always be part of WWE history as the first woman to ever win the Money In The Bank Ladder match.

Former Women’s Stars To Return To WWE?

Over the past few years, WWE has released most of it’s midcard women’s wrestlers, with names like Kairi Sane, Dakota Kai, Alba Fyre and Zoey Stark all being let go from the company.

This has led to a situation where most of the new call ups to the women’s roster no longer have names to wrestle on their way up the card, leading to endless non-finishes

WWE has seemingly begun to realise the role that effective midcarders have in the company, which is why names like Baron Corbin and Big Cass recently made their return.

However, as usual, WWE continues to overlook this facet when it comes to it’s women’s roster, which continues to be a cycle of the same women wrestling each other over and over again in a small division.
