There is reportedly a ‘growing frustration’ within WWE over the lack of variety and competitiveness in the SmackDown tag team division.

Back in March, the duo of R-Truth and Damian Priest captured the WWE Tag Team Championship from the MFTs on the SmackDown brand, marking their first reign as champions.

Truth and Priest have reigned as champions since then, with them defending the titles against the MFTs on last week’s SmackDown show, but there are reportedly growing frustrations within the company in regards to the WWE Tag Team Championship.

Growing Frustration In WWE Over SmackDown Tag Team Division

Per WRKD Wrestling, while both Truth and Priest are beloved backstage in the company, there is a ‘growing frustration’ backstage in WWE over a lack of variety and competitiveness in the SmackDown tag title scene.

This report comes after a previous report that the company was looking into rebuilding the tag team divisions on both Raw and SmackDown with existing members of the roster, including teams like Truth and Priest and The Miz and Kit Wilson.

The WWE Tag Team Championship division was considered one of the SmackDown brand’s highlights back in 2025.

What Went Wrong For SmackDown’s Tag Team Division

On the SmackDown after WrestleMania 41, DIY, Motor City Machine Guns and the Street Profits took part in a three-way TLC match for the titles which was widely considered among the best matches in the entire company for 2025.

The tag team division on SmackDown remained an exciting part of the show following the match, with the addition of former NXT Tag Team Champions Fraxiom to the division, as well as the team of Rey Fenix and Andrade and the return of the Wyatt Sicks.

The six-way TLC match at WWE SummerSlam is considered by many to be the swansong of the excitement among the division, with the titles being part of the months long story between the MFTs and the Wyatt Sicks coming out of the show, which long overstayed it’s welcome and brought the prestige of the titles down.

Of the six-teams who competed for the WWE Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam last year, only Fraxiom remain on the SmackDown brand, with the Street Profits now on the Raw roster, the Motor City Machine Guns and Wyatt Sicks being released from the company, as well as Andrade and Tommaso Ciampa leaving the company to join AEW.
