GUNTHER Shares Thoughts On Historic Intercontinental Title Reign WWE

WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has now shared his honest thoughts on his historic championship reign.

GUNTHER has passed many notable WWE milestones since winning the Intercontinental Title from Ricochet in June 2022.

This isn’t the Ring General’s first lengthy run with a WWE title, with GUNTHER previously holding the NXT UK Championship for a record 870 days from April 2019 to August 2021.

Speaking with Mail Online, GUNTHER gave his theory for why he’s a good champion:

“I’ve enjoyed it a lot and I think it’s something I’m good at.

“It might sound weird but I think I’m good at being a champion in wrestling. Because I carry myself a certain way, I add to the legacy of the title and I add my own legacy in the same process of that.

“It’s a big responsibility and I take it very serious, but it’s also very rewarding as well.”

GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Title win came just two months after he officially joined the SmackDown roster.

Discussing his NXT to WWE main roster transition, GUNTHER said:

“When you do a transition from NXT to the main roster it’s more about going through the big change and still keep believing in yourself and your ability.

“Don’t be intimidated by everything around it or personalities who give their opinions and stuff like that.

“Where I am right now is the top of the world in terms of our sport and there are many influential personalities with so many opinions that it’s just really important not to lose yourself through that.

“Take advice, take on board what benefits you, even if there’s something you don’t agree with it, but don’t lose the feeling of who you are and what you can do best.

“I would say that was the biggest struggle, but to be honest it’s more of a development and it’s been a very enjoyable journey so far.”

GUNTHER recently became the third-longest reigning Intercontinental Champion ever, passing Randy Savage’s 413 day reign.

It has been heavily speculated that GUNTHER will break the Honky Tonk Man’s 454 day record to become the longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time.

To break this record, GUNTHER will need to hold his title until at least September 7.

Before then, GUNTHER will defend his gold against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam.

WWE’s plans for the Ring General after SummerSlam have potentially been revealed, which you can read more about right here.
