Top Star Pulled From Upcoming NJPW Show Due To Injury NJPW

NJPW’s Capitol Collision event (April 15) from Washington, DC would see the dream pairing of the company’s two biggest names, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

The pair took on Aussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher) and The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) in a triple-threat tag match for the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Championships.

Despite Okada and Tanahashi having glittered singles careers they did not walk out of the US capitol as new champs, instead seeing Aussie Open claim their second piece of NJPW tag gold from reigning champs Shelley & Sabin.

While the headlines will belong to new double-champs Aussie Open, for Okada and Tanahashi in particular it seems like the loss of the match is the least of his worries.

As announced by NJPW Tanahashi would suffer a broken rib during the bout, news that was later confirmed by New Japan’s Ace via his Twitter saying:

“I went to hospital last night. My rib is broken. Sorry.”

As a result of the injury Tanahashi has now been pulled from NJPW Collision show in Philadelphia on Sunday April 16.

Tanahashi was set to team up with Lio Rush and Tomhiro Ishii against Aussie Open and TJP, however now Aussie Open will defend their newly acquired NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Titles against Ishii and Rush instead.
