WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY has returned to her home country of Japan for the first time since winning her first world title.
SKY became champion in memorable fashion at WWE SummerSlam 2023 on August 5, cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Bianca Belair, who had only won the title from Asuka just minutes prior.
With Asuka flying the Japanese flag in WWE’s women’s division for many years, SKY’s win was the first time any of her compatriots had achieved the same honor in the company.
Clearly relishing her position at the top of SmackDown’s women’s division, SKY took to Twitter to document her return home to Japan, posting pictures of herself posing with the championship throughout Tokyo.
While SKY will undoubtedly take pride in following in Asuka’s footsteps as WWE Women’s Champion, the two stars have been entangled in a feud on WWE TV since SKY became champion, with the Empress of Tomorrow recently defeating SKY’s Damage CTRL teammate Bayley on SmackDown (September 15).
In what will be just her second title defence thus far, SKY will defend her title against Asuka on this week’s SmackDown broadcast from Glendale, AZ.
