Jeff Cobb WWE Name Change Major Update

Jeff Cobb WWE Name Change Major Update WWE

A major update has emerged on Jeff Cobb undergoing a name change following his WWE debut at Backlash this past weekend.

UPDATE: WWE’s official social media pages have confirmed the name JC Mateo – and it was also used later in the show by ring announcer Mark Nash.

When he debuted, commentary did refer to him as Jeff Cobb, although on the post-show later on, it was specifically said he was “once” known as Jeff Cobb and it was unclear what his name would be going forward.

Earlier this week, WWE filed to trademark JC Mateo, which some predicted could have been Cobb’s new name.

There is now some big evidence in that direction coming out of tonight’s May 16 episode of SmackDown.

The opening segment saw Solo Sikoa, United States Champion Jacob Fatu and Jeff Cobb all make their entrance and head to the ring.

At Backlash, Cobb was brought in by Sikoa and attacked LA Knight to help Fatu retain the United States Championship, although Fatu didn’t seem to appreciate the help.

Tonight, Sikoa officially introduced Cobb as “JC” – and he was repeatedly referred to as “JC” by commentary as well.

The surname Mateo wasn’t used tonight, but it was very clear he’s now “JC” and not Jeff Cobb.

The in-ring segment featured more arguing between Fatu and Sikoa, with Sikoa even mocking Fatu’s catchphrases.

By the end, LA Knight appeared from behind and briefly attacked “JC” before scampering away.
