AEW Dynamite lead announcer and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has praised his SmackDown counterparts Pat McAfee and Michael Cole.
McAfee and Cole have been calling SmackDown together since April, and McAfee’s energy really seems to have reinvigorated Cole and they’ve done a great job together.
Someone else who agrees with that assessment is Jim Ross, who, on the latest episode of Grilling JR, said:
“I like it (Pat McAfee commentating on SmackDown). I think he’s a breath of fresh air, he’s contemporary, he fits in the scheme of things very well, he’s a guy that’s fun, respects the wrestling business. He doesn’t s**t on it, he doesn’t look down his nose at it or ‘talk down to me’ type thing to the audience. I think he’s done a great job. He’s a good hire. I know Cole handles the contracts of the announcers, I’m assuming that includes Pat. So, give Michael Cole some credit for Pat McAfee being on that show Friday night.”
McAfee had previously wrestled two matches for NXT last year and was praised for his great promo work, something that seems to have been recognised as he has his own weekly ‘McAfee Minute’ segment to speak to the crowd during commercials during SmackDown.
