VIDEO: John Cena Wrestles Singles Match After SmackDown September 22 WWE

Here’s what happened with John Cena after this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown went off the air.

After this week’s (September 22) edition of SmackDown ended with John Cena laying on his back courtesy of The Bloodline, the ‘Greatest of All Time’ was surprisingly challenged to an impromptu match after the cameras stopped rolling.

As captured by a Twitter user in attendance inside the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, AZ, The Street Profits’ Montez Ford, who earlier in the night drew the ire of Bobby Lashley, looked to make amends by securing a career-defining win against the 16-time world champion.

With the bell-ringing while Cena was still on his back, Ford picked up the early advantage, however it was Cena who secured the victory in the end.

You can watch footage of Cena’s match with Ford below.

While Cena rallied to defeat Ford before the night was over, his main event segment could have gone entirely differently had LA Knight not been pulled from the show last minute due to COVID-19.

Per Fightful Select, Knight was set to provide back up for Cena in the contract signing for his and AJ Styles’ tag team match against Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso at Fastlane.

While the contract was signed for Cena’s participation in the match, Styles was unable to sign on the dotted line after he was attacked and taken out of the building in an ambulance before the end of the show.

The original plan had been for Knight to save Cena from an attack at the hands of the Bloodline, and then to team with Cena in a main event dark match.
