AEW’s Kenny Omega will make a return appearance for NJPW soon, with the former champion confirmed for a major show.
Kenny Omega was a key figure for NJPW ahead of the formation of AEW in 2019, and has made several appearances for the promotion in the years since.
Omega – along with Will Ospreay – will now appear at Wrestle Kingdom 20, confirmed to be attending the special retirement ceremony for Hiroshi Tanahashi which will close the show.
NJPW shared the following announcement on its official site:
On January 4, the legendary 26 year career of Hiroshi Tanahashi comes to an end, with one final match against his greatest rival in Kazuchika Okada.
After the final bell sounds on the Ace, Wrestle Kingdom 20 will close out with a special ceremony to honour Tanahashi’s career with special guests sending the Ace off.
Two of those guests will be past opponents now fighting in AEW rings, as Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay are both confirmed to be in attendance!
Tanahashi and Omega battled over the IWGP Intercontinental title in 2016 after Omega memorably turned heavyweight, before their famous ideological clash on January 4 2019 led directly to AEW’s birth.
Omega and Ospreay competed alongside Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door in August, also teaming with Kota Ibushi and Darby Allin to defeat Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Gabe Kidd and the Young Bucks in a Lights Out Steel Cage match.
Kenny Omega notably made his in-ring return after over a year away with NJPW in January 2025, defeating Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty.
