Last week, it was reported that AEW were planning a big match for CM Punk at the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.
The planned match was said to see Punk face off against KENTA in something of a dream match, with a rich backstory between the two men.
The match would have seen Punk facing off with the man who he took his ‘GTS’ finisher from, but it seems to now be off the table.
In today’s update from Fightful Select regarding Punk, the planned match for the show would have been Punk vs KENTA, though it was said that Punk ‘wasn’t thrilled’ with the idea of facing KENTA.
The quote from Fightful was transcribed on Twitter, which prompted a response from KENTA, who said:
Hahaha. Me too. It is ZERO interesting without money. Also I’m so pissed that they planned our match without my permission and going to make it with NO BAG. This is my personal fued. F**K YOU.
Punk’s return to AEW is set to take place on the debut episode of Collision this Saturday, with him teaming with FTR to take on Jay White, Juice Robinson and Samoa Joe.
