A championship ladder match is set for the Sunday, May 28 AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The opening segment of tonight’s May 17 Dynamite set up a new match for the pay-per-view, which goes head to head with WWE’s NXT Battleground.
Despite not being advertised for the show beforehand, TNT Champion Wardlow opened Dynamite tonight and called out Christian Cage to join him in the ring.
Last week, Cage had stated he wanted to challenge for Wardlow’s title, and mocked Wardlow’s “daddy issues” – that being that Wardlow’s father is dead.
Cage did join Wardlow in the ring tonight, but had his associate Luchasaurus with him, and eventually they both attacked Wardlow.
They did so with a ladder, which was obviously done to foreshadow a ladder match.
This was confirmed in a backstage interview later in the show when Wardlow declared he would defend the TNT Title in a ladder match against Christian Cage at Double Or Nothing.
The card for tonight’s May 17 episode of Dynamite is as follows:
Chris Jericho vs. Roderick Strong – Falls Count Anywhere
Ricky Starks vs. Jay White
Jack Perry vs. Rush
Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin vs. Lee Moriarty & Big Bill
Sammy Guevara in action
Britt Baker & Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm & Ruby Soho
We’ll hear from Don Callis
