UPDATE – It’s now been confirmed that Ace Steel has also been suspended by AEW – read more, including another update on CM Punk at this link.
The backstage issues in AEW have been the talk of the wrestling worlds the past few days, with tensions escalating at the All Out media scrum, when a fight broke out backstage between CM Punk, Ace Steel and the Elite.
Following the backstage fight on Sunday night, Sports Illustrated have confirmed that Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, Pat Buck, Michael Nakazawa, Brandon Cutler and Christopher Daniels have been suspended by the company.
The two most obvious omissions from the list of names are CM Punk and Ace Steel, with the report claiming that the two will either be among those suspeneded by the company, or will no longer be a part of the company by the end of Wednesday, with Punk meeting with Tony Khan on Tuesday, with the two being able to discuss how an AEW departure could be handled.
The report also notes that an external third-party investigation will be conducted to examine what transpired in the fight, and that Adam Page had already left the building, which explains his absence from the altercation.
Punishment for that backstage fight, Sports Illustrated has learned, will include suspensions for every person involved. The list of those receiving suspensions includes Omega, Matt and Nick Jackson, Pat Buck, Christopher Daniels, Michael Nakazawa, and Brandon Cutler. Multiple sources have shared that Punk and Ace Steel will either be among those suspended, or will no longer be with the company by the end of Wednesday. Punk met with Khan on Tuesday, so the two had an opportunity to discuss how that exit could be handled.
