Major Scrapped WWE Plans For DIY Reunion Revealed

A new report has revealed major scrapped plans for the DIY reunion.

On the October 2 edition of WWE Raw, GUNTHER defeated Tommaso Ciampa to retain the Intercontinental Championship in the main event.

Following the bout, Imperium’s Giovanni Vinci and Ludvig Kaiser attacked Ciampa until Johnny Gargano made his return to make the save and officially reunite DIY.

This followed months of rumours and reports regarding Ciampa and Gargano reuniting on the main roster.

Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that there were active plans this past summer to reunite DIY on WWE TV after hinting at it on episodes of Raw.

However, this was one of many stories that got nixed and effectively dropped during this period of time.

The June 19 edition of WWE Raw saw many creative changes, including a planned World Heavyweight Championship open challenge match with Seth Rollins.

Fightful previously reported that Tommaso Ciampa was scheduled to answer the open challenge, but there is now more to that report.

The scrapped plans for the June 19 WWE Raw would have seen Ciampa answer Rollins’ open challenge, but the match would be ruined fairly quickly by The Judgment Day.

A returning Johnny Gargano, who was backstage in his hometown of Cleveland, would then make the save to reunite DIY.

The report notes that these plans were changed heavily in the days leading into the show before being nixed altogether and several involved were frustrated with the change.

Johnny Gargano was left off of WWE programming for over three months until returning on this past Monday’s Raw.

Many believed that Gargano was injured again due to being left off TV, but WWE sources confirmed that he had been cleared since late April.
