A major star is reportedly set to become a free agent in January 2024 following reported interest from WWE.
It was recently reported that WWE had ‘renewed interest’ in potentially signing NJPW’s top star Kazuchika Okada, with Shinsuke Nakamura’s recent push on Raw even being used as evidence of WWE attempting to secure the Rainmaker.
Obviously WWE would have interest in securing the man who is widely regarded by many to be one of, if not the very, best in the world.
In a major update from Sports Illustrated, Okada is about to become a free agent soon, with his contract set to expire at the end of January 2024.
While a new contract with NJPW would usually be underway, Okada is said to be ‘seriously entertaining’ the possibility of wrestling for a different promotion.
Okada has wrestled numerous times for AEW, most recently on the October 25 episode of Dynamite where he teamed with Orange Cassidy to face off with Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli.
Okada is set for a match at Wrestle Kingdom 18 on January 4, when he takes on Danielson in a major rematch from this year’s Forbidden Door show.
Okada isn’t the only major NJPW star set to have their contract come up early in 2024, as Will Ospreay recently announced that he had signed full-time with AEW, starting in February.
