Malakai Black Wants To Face NJPW Star ‘In His Own Setting’

AEW star Malakai Black has revealed that he wants another match with a popular NJPW star, this time in Japan.

Malakai Black recently admitted that he thought about joining AEW the day he was released by WWE. Black has now noted that he really wants to travel to Japan to have a rematch with KENTA.

Speaking on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Black spoke about limitations he and KENTA experienced when planning their WWE matches. Calling the Japanese star an inspiration, Black said:

“One of the things I would really like is to compete against KENTA in Japan in his own setting. Not in a WWE oriented setting. Not that there was anything bad about it. But I would like to see what him and me could do without that environment, without people giving us cues and direction and basically just go ‘what do we really want to do?’ And that’s something I really want to have answered at some point.

“I think what he’s doing now, I think his work is phenomenal. I think he’s one of those dudes, he’s one of those once in a generation type of guys. He’s inspired a bunch of us, and like I said, he definitely inspired me. I think the role of him, as an athlete and as a human being, he’s always been a great guy.”

KENTA recently competed in the King of Pro Wrestling 2021 trophy battle royal at Wrestle Grand Slam on July 25. A singles match for the provisional KOPW 2021 trophy has been announced for September’s Wrestle Grand Slam event.

Black is scheduled to make his AEW in-ring debut at Dynamite: Homecoming next week against Cody Rhodes.
