Being married to a wrestler can’t be easy, given how much you have to travel and watch your partner being repeatedly punched in the face on a daily basis. But for former WWE Women’s Champion Michelle McCool, it was even more extreme.
You see, marrying the Undertaker isn’t quite like marrying anyone else, as she explained in an appearance on Lilian Garcia’s podcast ‘Chasing Glory’.
McCool admitted that she grew tired of being treated so differently simply because she was married to one of the biggest stars in wrestling, and this eventually caused her to quit WWE entirely.
“Leaving was tough because it got to a point where — I was dealing with so much, mostly being Undertaker’s girlfriend while I was on TV. There was even a writer who threw the papers up one day and said, ‘Why don’t we just call it the Michelle McCool and Undertaker show.’ I went to Vince [McMahon] on numerous occasions and said, ‘I don’t want to hate something that I grew up loving so much. The longer I stay, the more I get this sour taste in my mouth.'”
She also cited wanting to start a family as a reason for leaving, but highlighted her relationship with Undertaker as the main factor.
McCool has appeared on rare occasions since retiring in 2011, most notably at the 2018 Women’s Royal Rumble and at WWE Evolution in the same year.
