WWE’s Michin Says Her Father Tried To Set Her Sister Kris Yim Up With Shelton Benjamin Before She Met Big E

WWE star Michin has recalled her father attempting to get her sister Kris Yim and AEW’s Shelton Benjamin together before she met Big E.

Anyone who follows WWE star Michin and/or Shelton Benjamin on social media will know that the pair share a unique friendship, one that more resembles a rivalry, as they’re seen taking playful jabs at each other at every opportunity.

Despite this front, the pair are known to be close friends and during her appearance on What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon, Michin discussed how she and Shelton met back at an independent event in Maryland in 2010.

Revealing that it was in fact chicken wings that brought them together, Michin recalled:

“This was in 2010 or 2011, I just started doing shows, and this one show in Maryland I think  I wrestled Mickie James, and they brought in Shelton and Charlie (Haas) and I think because they brought in all the WWE people they actually had catering. 

“So of course I had my plate and I’m in the line for chicken wings and Shelton’s right behind me and we both go to grab a chicken wing at the same time. We each took a chicken wing and ate and started talking to each other. 

“I’m not sure how it got to the relationship we have now where we just insult each other all the time. It felt natural and from the jump I felt like he, watched my match with Mickie and immediately was like ‘Oh, she actually cares about this, she’s doing this because she loves it and not because she wants to be on the cover of magazines or whatever, she’s actually passionate about this.”

While Michin was only in the early stages of her career when she and Benjamin met, she said that he knew about her ambition to make it in WWE, and saw fit to pass on advice to her ahead of that move – advice that Michin herself now passes on to younger talent.

She continued:

“…He knew I wanted to be in WWE, so he made sure to tell me about the psychology of my matches, why did I do this, why didn’t I do this and kind of make sure that I was TV ready.

“In my head I’m like, I don’t care, let me gig. And now I’m talking to the younger generation and I’m telling them the same thing. I always text Shelton, like ‘Thanks Shelton, your advice helped once again and now it’s reflecting off me to them.’”

Following the blossoming of their friendship, Michin’s family have also grown to “love” Benjamin, so much so that, according to Michin, her father at one point tried to set the AEW star up with her sister Kris:

“He’s been in my life almost two decades now, my family loves him, he is my family. We’re tight. I always say that’s my big brother, my family loves him. My dad tried to get him and my sister to get together. They got Big E.”
