New WWE Tag Team Name Confirmed

New WWE Tag Team Name Confirmed WWE

The new name for a WWE tag team looks to be official as the company has filed for a trademark with the USPTO.

A number of weeks ago, SmackDown star ‘Butch’ reverted back to his former name Pete Dunne after he and Tyler Bate reunited as a tag team.

Since then, they’ve become #1 contenders for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, but have undergone another change as well.

On the February 16 episode of SmackDown, Tyler Bate pitched to call the team the “New Catch Republic”.

Dunne didn’t disagree, which, considering it’s Pete Dunne, pretty much meant he was fine with it.

On February 18, WWE filed to trademark New Catch Republic, seemingly confirming it will indeed be the team’s name going forward.

The filing was made with the following description:

Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment

The New Catch Republic will challenge Damian Priest and Finn Balor of Judgment Day for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship in Australia on February 24 at Elimination Chamber.

Before that, on the February 23 episode of SmackDown, they’ll face the other two male Judgment Day members, Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh.

That match has actually already been taped along with the rest of the ‘live’ SmackDown content due to WWE’s travel to Australia – for full spoilers, click here.
