The main event of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s 48th Anniversary show is now confirmed as Tetsuya Naito will face Hiromu Takahashi.
Recent NJPW anniversary shows have featured main events with the IWGP Heavyweight Champion facing the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. The most recent of such matches was in 2018 when Kazuchika Okada faced Will Ospreay.
Naito is currently the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion. He won both titles at Wrestle Kingdom 14, defeating Jay White and Kazuchika Okada on back to back nights. He defended both titles against KENTA at The New Beginning in Osaka.
Hiromu Takahashi is Naito’s Los Ingobernables de Japon stablemate. The two have a distinct big brother-little brother dynamic and this will be the first time they will have wrestled a singles match. Hiromu won the junior title at Wrestle Kingdom 14 from Will Ospreay and recently defended it against Ryu Lee.
The event will take place on March 3rd at the Ota City General Gymnasium.
