NJPW Destruction in Hiroshima results

Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito, Evil, Sanada, and Bushi) defeated Suzuki-Gun (Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr., Taka Michinoku, and El Desperado)

This was a fun brawl of a match. It kind of blends together with the other matches these two teams have had of late but they told a story in this match to set up Naito vs. Suzuki at Destruction in Beppu.

Suzuki choked out Naito during the match, putting Naito out of action for several minutes. There was lots of good back-and-forth action in this match with both teams getting their chances to shine. Naito made a brief comeback before being taken out by Suzuki again. Evil and Sanada hit a Magic Killer on Michinoku for the win.

After the match Suzuki continued to attack Naito and Zack Sabre Jr. had a confrontation in the ring with Evil. Naito was going to be taken out on a backboard but he elected to leave with the help of Bushi.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Togi Makabe, and Tomoaki Honma defeated Kazuchika Okada, Yoshi-Hashi, and Jay White

The story of this match was the issues with the Chaos team. Jay White is clearly looking to divide Chaos as he continues to undermine Okada’s leadership by letting him know that he isn’t the boss of White and White beat him in the G1 Climax. The finish saw Okada attempt a kick on Tanahashi but accidentally hitting Yoshi-Hashi, allowing Tanahashi to roll him up and get the pin.

After the match Yoshi-Hashi argued with Okada and left on his own, leaving White and Okada to continue arguing in the ring. Trouble is definitely brewing within Chaos and that will be a storyline to watch as we press onward.

IWGP Heavyweight Championship match: Kenny Omega (c) defeated Tomohiro Ishii

The main event of Destruction in Hiroshima and a really great match. This match went just a hair over 30 minutes and thus was a slower match than their classic in the G1 Climax. This match is worth seeking out and is Omega’s first defence of the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in Japan since he won the title at Dominion in June.

Lots of great moments in this match from a crazy dive where Omega delivered a double foot-stomp from the top rope to Ishii who was on the announce table, which Omega did not land cleanly, to a scary superplex, and Ishii hitting a top rope rana. There was lots of action in this match but when Ishii kicked out at one after a vicious V-Trigger the match kicked into high gear and did not let up until the end. The finish of the match saw Omega hitting Ishii with the One Winged Angel to secure the pin.

This match was a great main event but it did not reach the heights of their match from the G1 Climax, which was one of the very best matches of the year.

Destruction in Hiroshima was a one match show but the one match was definitely worth watching. Lots of matches with future implications and some fun wrestling made Destruction in Hiroshima a fun show to watch and one people won’t be upset they spent the time to watch.
