A new report has revealed details behind WWE NXT moving to a new TV home.
As previously reported, WWE announced today that NXT was officially moving to The CW Network starting in October 2024, signing a five-year deal.
This will end the brand’s five year run on the USA Network, but it also halts plans for another wrestling promotion.
Recent reports indicated that NWA was in talks with The CW Network to bring the company to the network for two shows, their NWA Power weekly show and a new reality series.
According to Fightful Select (subscription required), this deal with WWE and The CW has been discussed for months, well before the rumours of NWA and CW started.
WWE’s sides of things stated they felt that the talks moved quickly, with one source saying they are satisfied with the new deal.
The report notes that the promotion views this as a product they were not receiving rights fees for just five years ago, and have increased revenue by millions for a show they were already producing.
An extra incentive for WWE in this deal was they get a significant rights fee increase and now they’re on a basic network that widens a possible audience base.
On the November 7 TKO earnings call, the company noted that the deal is a 70 percent increase on the rights fee, but WWE sources see it more like a 200 percent increase, factoring in everything they do and all that’s included.
In a report by Deadline, the new rights deal was double the $15 million price tag.
WrestleTalk will provide further updates on NXT moving to The CW Network when they become available.
