In the latest issue of WrestleTalk Magazine, our own Oli Davis spills the dirt on what the conclusion of the infamous ‘Who Is Byron Saxton?’ storyline was SUPPOSED to be and how it morphed into the epic WrestleTalk vs. Cultaholic war (which reaches its thrilling climax next week at Wrestling MediaCon).

As Oli recalls:
“The video [to introduce Adam Pacitti] went down rather well. But Pacitti under the mask was never the original plan. The Cultaholic crossover was only finalized days before the big reveal. The initial idea was even crazier. It involved evil villains, kidnap . . . and even superpowers.”
According to Oli’s article, for the original climax he was going to enter a room labeled ‘The House of Bad Booking’ and find it empty other than a mirror. Upon looking into the mirror he would see himself as Byron Saxton, because, “there’s a little bit of Byron in every one of us.”
As he notes in the piece:
“I legitimately thought this was a great anticlimax.”
There would then be more madcap silliness, with El Fakidor revealed as the ‘Master of the Mirrorverse’, given super-powers such as being able to jump inside the ‘Mirror Dimension’ and journey through any mirror in the galaxy.
“We had even filmed stuff for it already” remembers Oli with a hint of sadness. Actually a truckload of sadness. He really loved his Mirrorverse idea.
Instead he was talked into working with Adam Pacitti and the Cultaholic rabble, a decision Oli grudging admits was “much better” and one that gave him surprising insight into the way Vince McMahon thinks:
“Sometimes you don’t need an intricately thought out storyline. Sometimes you don’t need character traits effectively mirrored in plot devices. Sometimes you just need to have a big reveal. And for the first time ever, just for a moment, I felt like I finally understood the impossible. I finally understood how Vince McMahon books wrestling.”
Quite.
