A surprising change of ring announcer looks to have been made for WWE Crown Jewel 2023.
As first seen and heard ahead of the Crown Jewel Kick-Off match between Raw stars Sami Zayn and JD McDonagh it was not Samantha Irvin fulfilling her usual duties, SmackDown’s Mike Rome, or even NXT’s Alicia Taylor.
Instead taking the role for the night looks to be former Raw and current NXT Level Up commentator Byron Saxton.
Saxton currently performs the role of backstage interviewer on Raw and does often perform the role of ring announcer on WWE live events, however, he has not done so on WWE TV for quite some time.
As well as WWE live events, Saxton did also use to perform the role in NXT during his earlier years in WWE.
While the reasoning is unclear as to why this choice has been made, it’s worth also noting that Alicia Taylor has recently been the stand-in for both Irvin and Rome recently on Raw and SmackDown.
Confirming he looks to be in the role all night, Saxton also did the ring announcing duties for the opening match of the main show between Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre for the World Heavyweight Championship.
