Pat McAfee has returned on tonight’s WWE SmackDown and has aligned himself with Randy Orton, attacking Cody Rhodes.
UPDATE: Pat McAfee will never return to wrestling television if Randy Orton loses at WrestleMania – click here for the latest.
The man behind the mystery phone calls to Randy Orton in recent weeks has been revealed as Pat McAfee, who said WWE is struggling and he thinks he and Randy Orton can turn it around.
He even brought up the underwhelming WrestleMania ticket sales and said the ratings have been the worst they’ve ever been.
McAfee blamed all of this on Rhodes being the face of the company, and says he and Orton are going to “save the f**king business.”
While McAfee was explaining himself, Orton continued beating down Rhodes with a steel chair, before they left together and Rhodes was left in the ring and had to be helped up by producers.
As McAfee and Orton left the arena, McAfee stated regarding his phone calls to Orton:
“Sometimes you’ve just gotta remind people that they’re in the GOAT conversation, about to take the GOAT spot, to save the business.”
WWE Roster Shakeup After WrestleMania 42?
While there have been some moves since WWE’s last “Transfer Window” in early 2025 – most notably NXT call-ups – it may be time for WWE to reintroduce an official draft after the dust has settled on WrestleMania 42.
Some of these changes may depend on who wins and loses at WrestleMania. Roman Reigns is still listed as a SmackDown star despite challenging for Raw’s top prize in Las Vegas, while Rhea Ripley is in the opposite situation: being a member of the Raw roster challenging for the blue brand’s WWE Women’s Title.
Then there’s NXT, who currently houses stars such as Sol Ruca and Ethan Page – two names who many fans would agree have been overdue a shot at the main roster for almost a year.
Whether it be examples such as these, or top names such as Cody Rhodes and GUNTHER who could also benefit from a change of scenery, a draft could shake things up in the right way for WWE’s new season post-WrestleMania.
