Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi are currently being suspended without pay after they walked out of the May 16 Raw taping.
The suspensions being without pay was reported by Dave Meltzer, and in an update, Fightful Select is now reporting that they haven’t been able to confirm Meltzer’s report, but did hear from one higher-up in WWE who said they don’t believe Naomi and Sasha Banks’ contracts would be frozen if they’re not being paid.
This came after speculation that WWE may have frozen their contracts for the duration of their absence and added the time they missed to the end of their deals, but by the sounds of it, if the suspension is without pay, that won’t be the case.
This is pretty significant for Naomi as her contract was only two months away from expiring, so if it was to be frozen, she’d have to stay with WWE for longer than that.
Fightful also added that sources within WWE have said that they’ve not heard of much, if any, communication between the parties. However, the report notes that WWE had canceled upcoming travel plans they had for both women starting last week when the suspension happened.
Another source indicated to Fightful that initially, several in WWE didn’t want to vacate the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, but it became clear pretty quickly that was had to be done. There is still no update on when the potential tournament could take place.
