Reason Rob Gronkowski Is Heading To SmackDown

It was reported earlier this week that former NFL Tight End Rob Gronkowski has signed with the WWE. He has been advertised to appear on WWE SmackDown.

Why is Gronk headed to the Blue Brand? According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is likely because Fox wanted him to appear on their channel. Gronk is an NFL Analyst on Fox and will have large mainstream appeal with NFL viewers of their station.

Meltzer even claims his mainstream drawing power may even be higher than Ronda Rousey’s.

So, how many matches has Gronk signed on for? It appears he may only have signed on for a couple.

It is very likely that he will wrestle at SummerSlam. SummerSlam is being hosted in Boston.

Gronkowski is a former New England Patriot and spent many seasons playing in front of a lot of people in that area. Gronk is considered to be one of the best tight ends in NFL history and certainly one of the most athletic.

At this time, it is not believed he will have an actual match at WrestleMania 36. He may have some sort of angle for him to set up a SummerSlam match.

But who against? It’s not clear at this time, but it would be hard to see WWE having him lose clean in front of the Boston Crowd.

Even though he is extremely athletic, he still hasn’t been properly trained in professional wrestling. It might be best to put him in a tag match or in a match he could go over quickly against.

I hear Ricochet has experience losing quickly. Maybe, he’ll be his first competition.
