It was reported several weeks ago that WWE was set to postpone its show in Saudi Arabia that was scheduled for May until June. This change was said to have been brought on by the fact that Money In The Bank had been brought forward to May for the first time. The Money In The Bank event is one of WWE’s “big five”, and would have taken place just two weeks after the Saudi Arabia event, so WWE clearly wanted to space things out.
However, now Fightful is reporting that as a result of moving the Saudi Arabia show to June, WWE has had to cancel their planned Backlash pay-per-view event. Backlash was set to take place in San Diego on June, 16, and although WWE might have never officially announced the event, The Pechanga Arena, where the event was set to be held, had the show listed on their official event calendar
It is said that the change is down to the fact that Backlash would have only taken place nine days after the Saudi Arabia show, and WWE had to move it for advertising reasons. WWE had listed Backlash on their touring schedule for June 16th, but have not publically announced the event happening, or the later change in plans.
Furthermore, Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer is reporting that the company now has the deal with the issue of having all of their weekend shows in the California areas of Stockton, San Jose and Oakland. It is even reported that NXT Takeover on June 8th is set to take place in San Jose.
This comes a few days after former Smackdown General Manager Vickie Guerrero publically slated WWE for having too many pay-per-view events.
