WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio has recalled almost retiring from wrestling prior to Dominik Mysterio beginning his training.
Back in 2019, Dominik Mysterio began making appearances on WWE television alongside his father Rey Mysterio, including involvement in Rey’s WWE Championship rivalry and match with Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2019.
Dominik would make his official in-ring debut at SummerSlam in 2020, where he faced off against Seth Rollins on the show in a losing effort.
Since Dominik’s debut, he and his father have continued to be active on the WWE roster, including their clash with each other at WrestleMania 39.
Rey Mysterio Almost Retired From WWE Prior To Dominik’s Debut
However, it seems as though we wouldn’t have Rey on WWE television at all right now if not for Dominik training to become a wrestler.
Speaking on The Late Run, Rey was asked if there was ever a point in his career that he considered retiring from in-ring competition.
Rey noted that he considered retiring ‘5 or 6 years ago’ before Dominik beginning his training.
He said:
“I actually do remember a point, it happened not too long ago, maybe about 5 or 6 years. I just wasn’t getting that same emotion when I would step into the ring.
“I think my body was burnt out, mentally, physically and I told my wife, I remember sitting down with her and saying ‘I don’t feel what I would always feel whenever I would step into the ring, I think I’m gonna tap out, I just don’t feel it anymore’.
“Shortly after, my son told me he wanted to try and break into the business, and seeing him or helping him get on board kind of just inspired or ignited that fire once again, and it’s been going since.
“It was one instance of me not wanting, then him coming into the picture, and me reigniting myself.”

Aalyah Mysterio To Debut In WWE Soon?
Dominik may not be the only child of Rey Mysterio wrestling on WWE television soon, as Rey recently noted that his daughter Aalyah has begun her training to become a wrestler.
Aalyah made a number of appearances on WWE television back in 2020 as part of Rey and Dominik’s rivalry with Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy on Raw.
With Rey currently serving as the AAA General Manager, and the overall lack of women’s wrestlers on the brand currently, Rey introducing his daughter to AAA to give her some matches under her belt would be a great place for her to make her debut.
