WWE star Cathy Kelly has thanked “everyone who reached out” following the revelation that she was diagnosed with autism.
The backstage interviewer revealed that she was diagnosed with autism during a recent interview, describing how she feel “a little bit more” introverted than a “typical person”.
With the revelation now in the public space, Kelly would go on to express her thanks after others shared messages of support and their own stories, tweeting:
“This past day’s been filled with reading messages and comments from people sharing their own stories, diagnoses and experiences, and I honestly don’t know how to put into words how much it means to me.
“Anyone late diagnosed will know the feeling… I’ve spent my whole life watching others talk about wanting to stand out or be unique. Meanwhile, all i ever wanted was to fit in
“And then that moment where it all finally makes sense 🥹
“Thank you to everyone who reached out with kindness or encouragement. Thank you for making me feel so welcomed, included and understood. i hope one day i can return the favor.”
Having signed with WWE in 2016, Kelley would leave the company four years later, having served in a number of on-screen backstage roles, returning in October 2022.
During the appearance on Insight, she would reveal that she doesn’t want to wrestle, but does have an interest in being a manager.
Cathy Kelley: Manager Of The Stars?
Throughout much of their shared time in WWE, there’s been a frisson of feisty flirtation between Cathy Kelley and Rhea Ripley, with the pair having a friendship that brings much joy to the fans whenever it is showcased on social media or on screen.
No matter who Ripley may get close to on screen, there will no doubt be a number of fans tagging Kelley in the comments on social media, with the star often playing along.
If Kelley does go down the manager route in WWE, it’s difficult not to picture her alongside Ripley, with her name topping a list of stars the commentator could manage in a recent WrestleTalk feature. It might be too much of a stretch for Kelley, either, having demonstrated time and time again her confidence on the microphone, her rapport with WWE stars from across all rosters, and an honest grasp on emotion that drives stories forward.
It has previously been reported that Kelley has been training in the ring, a fundamental step to becoming a manager, with the occasional need to get physical.
Should Kelly follow that path, be it with or without Rhea Ripley, whoever follows her in the backstage interviewer and analyst role will surely have big boots to fill.
