A WWE Hall of Famer has reflected on Jim Ross and Paul Heyman “playing tug of war” with him.
Before Rob Van Dam made a name for himself in WWE, “The Whole F’N Show” became a mainstay of the ECW roster as the longest reigning ECW Television Champion in company history.
After leaving Extreme Championship Wrestling, RVD was at the center of a battle between Jim Ross and Paul Heyman with both wanting the honor of bringing him into WWE in 2001.
On the latest episode of the “1 of a Kind with RVD” podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer discussed the battle to sign him between Heyman and JR. RVD said:
“I was caught up in political warfare which I pushed back against very much. And, you know, [Ross] was part of that. You know, he was office.”
“Him and Paul Heyman were kinda playing tug of war with me over who brought me in and who would get credit for it.”
Van Dam continued on to give his perspective on being in the middle of the two prominent names, saying:
“It was frustrating to me because I would talk to one and then I would happen to talk to the other one, and it was weird because were like, burying each other through me.”
Rob Van Dam was signed to WWE in 2001 where he eventually became WWE Champion, six-time Intercontinental Champion and four-time Hardcore Champion.
