Io Shirai and Zoey Stark captured the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship back on July 6, dethroning former champions Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell.
Since they won the titles, Io Shirai has not wrestled a match for the Black and Gold (soon to be rainbow painted) brand, leading to speculation from fans on whether she has been cleared to compete.
Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that Shirai is not injured, and that she actually wrestled at the recent set of NXT tapings.
Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter challenged the champions following their victory on last week’s show, so that seems to be the first defence for Io and Zoey.
