It was reported a few weeks ago by Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio that he had been told that WWE could be considering releasing a number of wrestlers.
While this is yet to take place, the latest rumour making the rounds is that it could be happening in the new year ahead of Royal Rumble and WrestleMania season.
NXT star Jordan Myles was released this past week following a major racism scandal, which pretty much forced WWE’s hand in terms of releasing him.
Other stars who have requested their release in the past year such as Sin Cara, Luke Harper and Mike Kanellis haven’t been quite so lucky, as all of their requests have been rejected.
It is possible that WWE disapproves of the public way in which their requests have been made, for example through Twitter posts, and will therefore only release those who have asked for releases more privately.
Now that the AEW storm is settling, Vince may be slightly more willing to release some unused talent to simply save some money, particularly if he doesn’t see them heading to AEW.
The lower down the pecking order you are, the more likely you are to be released, so if there is to be some kind of superstar exodus, then it could be that it comes from the bottom up.
