The first challenger for Sami Zayn’s newly won WWE Intercontinental Championship may have been revealed.
Undoubtedly the biggest shock of WWE WrestleMania 40 Night One was the Underdog from the Underground Sami Zayn pulling off the impossible and finally ending GUNTHER’s record-breaking 666 day Intercontinental Title reign.
This was not only the climax of GUNTHER’s legendary reign, but The Ring General’s first pinfall loss since being called up from WWE NXT in April 2022.
As ever with WWE though, Zayn likely won’t have long to breathe before a host of new challengers step up to the plate.
Chad Gable already told Zayn he owes him one for aiding his preparation for WrestleMania, while another man with a solid claim has taken to Twitter to point out his recent successes over the new champion.
2024 Andre The Giant Battle Royal winner ‘Big’ Bronson Reed tweeted:
Hold up. I just beat Sami’s ass twice … #WrestleMania
Although Reed did pin Zayn on March 25’s WWE Raw, their rematch the following week (April 1) ended in a no contest, so technically its just the one win Reed has over Zayn.
Regardless though, Zayn has yet to defeat Reed so it’d be hard to argue if The Aussie Destroyer was first up to the plate.
Although Reed captured the Andre Battle Royal crown, he was less than enthused with missing out on the WretsleMania card for a second straight year – commenting on the situation on social media – full details available here.
