An update has emerged on the possibility of Sasha Banks (AKA Mercedes Mone) returning to WWE at the Royal Rumble event on January 27.
It seems we’re getting closer to decision time for Banks, as both WWE and AEW have been hoping to sign her for months now.
It seemed a WWE return was on, but things reportedly fell through and AEW is now the favorite to land her signature.
However, there are people in WWE who do still believe there’s a chance Sasha Banks could be back, even as soon as the Royal Rumble.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports:
The original plan was for Giulia to lose to Mercedes Mone on this show (NJPW Battle in the Valley), but Mone hasn’t returned and even with all the AEW rumors (and there is expectation in AEW that she’ll be in after finishing up some acting commitments this month), nothing is for certain and some in WWE believe there is still a shot for her in the Royal Rumble.
If she was to return at the Rumble, she’d likely be joining former tag team partner Naomi (Trinity Fatu), who is expected to finish with TNA Wrestling in the coming days.
Banks and Naomi walked out of WWE together at the very same time as Women’s Tag Team Champions during a live Raw show on May 17, 2022.
A lot has obviously changed within WWE management since then though, which opened up the possibility of returns for both.
The aforementioned Giulia of STARDOM Wrestling is also expected to join WWE some time in the not-too-distant future.
We’ll continue to keep you posted with any further updates on Banks’ status.
