Scrapped Plans For Edge NXT TakeOver Match Revealed

Scrapped Plans For Edge NXT TakeOver Match Revealed WWE

The original plans for a rivalry between Finn Balor and WWE Hall of Famer Edge has now been revealed.

While Edge and Balor were at odds for most of 2022, with the Balor kicking the Rated R Superstar from Judgment Day that June, the duo’s final match took place at WrestleMania 39.

On the April 2 show, Edge defeated Balor in a Hell in a Cell match to finally put the Judgment Day behind him.

Speaking with SEScoops, Finn Balor revealed that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, WWE had a big match planned for a potential NXT TakeOver match in Ireland.

Noting that Balor vs Edge was pencilled in for the event, Balor said:

“Yeah, there were talks right before COVID for a Takeover, NXT TakeOver going to Ireland.

“Actually, the penciled in match at the time that we were trying to get over the line was Finn versus Edge, which actually turned out being happening at WrestleMania.

“So and there’s definitely hopes in the future of having a PLE in Ireland, but you know, business is great. Right now we’re doing a lot more overseas, and we’re very excited.”

There have recently been hints at dissension within Judgment Day, with Finn Balor and Damian Priest previously getting their wires crossed when targeting World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.

While Balor will challenge for Rollins’ world title at SummerSlam, Priest possesses the Money in the Bank briefcase, which he can cash in for a title match at a time of his choosing.
