UPDATE: This match has actually been confirmed for next week’s SmackDown at Madison Square Garden, NOT Money in the Bank.
A potential new match for tomorrow’s Money in the Bank event in London, England may have been set up on SmackDown today.
Live from the O2 Arena much like Money in the Bank will be tomorrow, SmackDown featured a “championship contender’s match” between United States Champion Austin Theory and England’s own Ridge Holland.
The stipulation meant that it wasn’t a title match, but if Holland won, he’d earn one for the future.
As it turns out, Theory won anyway in a pretty out-of-the-blue way with his slingshot dropkick, but his weekend might not be over yet.
Theory attacked Holland after the match, at which point Holland’s Brawling Brutes teammate Sheamus came out to make the save.
That clearly seems to be setting up Theory vs Sheamus, and you’d think WWE would want Sheamus on the card for its big UK show, so the signs seem to be pointing to that being added to Money in the Bank.
It’s not official yet, but we’ll keep you updated.
In other match announcement news, Karrion Kross vs AJ Styles was announced for next week’s SmackDown.
