Shinsuke Nakamura’s rather unfortunate injury may cause him to miss WWE’s Japanese return this weekend at Sumo Hall.
The marketing for that event was heavily centered around Nakamura vs. AJ Styles for the WWE Championship and sold out in seconds, something WWE had not done in Japan for a long time.
Selling out instantly at Sumo Hall is a rarity even for Japanese giants New Japan Pro Wrestling. The company achieved that feat for the finals of the 2015 and 2016 G1 Climax but were unable to repeat that last year due to increased ticket prices (though it did still sell out eventually).
As it stands there is no confirmation one way or the other as to whether Nakamura will miss the show, and right now he is still considered off the active roster until medically cleared to return.
WWE and Shinsuke himself will be hopeful that he is fit enough to appear or else there may be a lot of very unhappy fans in the building. That is absolutely not what WWE wants when they are trying to make further inroads into the wrestling scene in Japan.
