WWE announced the launch of the ‘SmackDown’ World Cup on last week’s (November 4) episode of SmackDown.
WWE revealed that the tournament will begin on tonight’s episode of the show in Indianapolis.
The previously announced bout between Santos Escobar and Shinsuke Nakamura for the show has now been announced as a first round match for the tournament.
The tournament is set to feature special presentation on the show, per Fightful Select (subscription required).
Fighful notes that the tournament is set to be on display at ringside at tonight’s show.
It is worth noting that WWE has flown props into the location of the show before that have then gone unused.
The winner of the tournament is set to earn a shot at the Intercontinental Champion Gunther.
Also set for tonight’s show is the big Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship encounter between the Usos and the New Day, as well as a six-pack challenge to crown the new number one contender for Ronda Rousey’s SmackDown Women’s Championship.
