The WWE Intercontinental Title Tournament Finals Are Set

The WWE Intercontinental Title Tournament Finals Are Set

SmackDown was supposed to feature Jeff Hardy vs. Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles vs. Elias in the semifinals of the Intercontinental Title Tournament tonight. What do you do when you have Hardy getting a huge push, but Bryan and AJ is the match everyone wants to see?

Well, you create a story where Jeff Hardy is arrested for running over Elias in a rental car. If that’s not enough, then you make Jeff Hardy smell like alcohol and send him off in handcuffs.

Adam Pearce tried to figure out what to do next. AJ Styles wanted a bye into the finals. So, he got one. AJ is finalist number 1.

Daniel Bryan, on the other hand, demanded a match tonight. A long list of folks wanted a chance to fill in for Hardy. Pearce decided to have a battle royal to see who would face Bryan.

Sheamus won the battle royal. Sheamus would face Bryan later on the show.

During the main event, Jeff Hardy apparently escaped police custody and made his way back to SmackDown. He distracted Sheamus allowing Daniel Bryan to pick up the win.

Daniel Bryan is the second finalist. It looks like Jeff Hardy blames Sheamus for being set up earlier in the night.

However, the match we all wanted is set to happen next week on Friday Night SmackDown. It’s Daniel Bryan vs. AJ Styles in the greatest wrestling match currently announced by WWE, not that other one.

We’ll see if this match can stand up to fans’ expectations. It should be a good one. Of course, it could end in a no contest and force a rematch at BackLash.

Whatever happens, WrestleTalk will have your live coverage next week of SmackDown. If you missed SmackDown, you can catch up on the biggest stories here.
