A title change took place on tonight’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico special episode of AEW Dynamite in Arena Mexico.
Mercedes Mone came out on top in this year’s Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament, defeating Jamie Hayter in the finals at Double or Nothing to earn a shot at Toni Storm’s AEW Women’s World Championship at All In Texas.
Ahead of the show however, Mercedes set her sights on another title, with her calling out CMLL World Women’s Champion Zeuxis for a title match at tonight’s Grand Slam show in Arena Mexico.
On tonight’s show, Mercedes would end up defeating Zeuxis to capture the CMLL World Women’s Championship for the first time, and her fifth championship currently.
Mercedes also reigns as AEW TBS Champion, EWA Women’s Champion, RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Champion and the championship for her victory in the Owen Hart Tournament at Double or Nothing.
Mercedes will challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In Texas on July 12.
The only other match confirmed for the event so far is Hangman Page challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship.
What a moment! @MercedesVarnado is now your NEW @CMLL_OFICIAL World Women's Champion!
