A big championship change took place at tonight’s AEW Revolution pay-per-view event in Los Angeles, California.

Tonight’s show was Kenny Omega’s first AEW pay-per-view match since Full Gear in 2023, with him challenging Konosuke Takeshita for the AEW International Championship.

Omega made his return to the ring at the Wrestle Dynasty event on January 5 in the Tokyo Dome, where he defeated Gabe Kidd.

Omega pinned Takeshita in a tag team match at AEW Grand Slam Australia, where he and Will Ospreay defeated Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher, earning Omega a shot at the International Championship at Revolution.

Takeshita defended the title against Orange Cassidy on last week’s Dynamite show, confirming that he would be facing Omega for the title in Los Angeles.

In the end, Omega would pick up the victory over Takeshita, capturing the AEW International Championship for the first time in his career, and his first title of any kind since he and the Young Bucks lost the AEW Trios Championship to the House of Black at Revolution in 2023.

A championship match that was set to take place on tonight’s show was ultimately cancelled, which you can see here.
