Tony Khan says he’s “very excited” about the future of an AEW prospect who has been the subject of much attention lately.
With his father being the legendary Sting, the progress of Steven Borden’s fledging in-ring career has been the source of much excitement among fans since it was confirmed that he was beginning pro wrestling training back in May 2024.
With Borden wrestling in dark matches in AEW and ROH in recent months, Tony Khan was asked to share his thoughts on the second-generation star’s progress during an interview with TMZ’s Inside the Ring.
Khan said:
“He’s fantastic I’m getting very excited about Steven. He played football at Kentucky, he’s a great prospect. I first saw him as a football player working at the Jaguars as a tight end coming out of Kentucky. My first thought was, ‘Wow, he looks awesome.’
“And of course with his family connection in pro wrestling and given that he’s Sting son, a lot of the genetics are there. And not only is Steven a great football player, he’s becoming a fantastic wrestler.
“We saw a little bit of it when he got involved in Sting’s last match against The Young Bucks and he came out looking like Sting and it gave me the thought, wow I’d love to see more of Steven as a wrestler. “And he’s doing a great job, he’s wrestling in the dark matches and getting experience, but I think he has the potential to be an excellent wrestler.”

How Is Steven Borden Handling The Pressure Of Being Sting’s Son?
According to Khan, Steven is “very much” handling the pressure that comes with being the son of “The Icon” Sting, saying:
“Very much. We’re also not throwing him into the fire.
“It’s been a great thing, he’s getting the learning experience, wrestling different wrestlers before we go live in the dark matches and I think when people do see him it’s building anticipation for when people want to see him on television.”

While it remains to be seen when Borden will appear on AEW television, a major step in his pro wrestling journey was confirmed earlier this week when it was announced that he’ll be making his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut at the NJPW Third Anniversary Showcase on March 21 at the LA Dojo.
Who Is Training Steven Borden To Wrestle?
When it was first revealed that Steven Borden was training to become a pro wrestler, it was reported that he was being trained by Darby Allin.
NJPW star Fred Rosser, who competed in WWE as Darren Young, stated that he was also helping train Borden, describing his development as a “personal project he’s trying to conquer.”
