Tony Khan Discusses ‘Years’ Of Negotiating For ‘Final Countdown’ AEW

One of the highlights of last weekend’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door show was the dream match main event between Bryan Danielson and Kazuchika Okada.

The match was well received even before the bell rang, as Bryan Danielson made his entrance to the Europe song Final Countdown, his original theme from Ring of Honor which had been a long-time request for fans of AEW.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan detailed the negotiations behind getting the song, and how he really wanted to use it as part of Forbidden Door.

He said:

Well we were negotiating for years (to get Europe’s ‘The Final Countdown’), trying to get the deal done and this is the best rate I ever got recently and it was something I felt would add to the presentation of Forbidden Door and Bryan-Okada is one of those special matches and anything I could do to add to the presentation and make the night more special, I really wanted to do so, that’s what led to The Final Countdown at Forbidden Door this past weekend as part of the great event.

During his appearance on Busted Open Radio, Khan also addressed some fans’ criticism of Hiroshi Tanahashi’s performance against Swerve Strickland on AEW Rampage.

Bryan suffered a broken arm during the match with Okada, which has led to a major change to AEW creative.
