A top NXT star has been recently working as a backstage producer, booking certain matches for the NXT brand.
NXT UK Champion WALTER is one of the most talented competitors wrestling for the company today. It has now been revealed that the Ring General has been working in an interesting backstage role.
During an NXT media call, Triple H was asked whether Pete Dunne was still helping to put together matches backstage. The Game gave some names of wrestlers who had temporarily worked as producers for the brand. Among these names was WALTER, who Triple H noted had produced matches for his UK colleagues.
Here is the full quote:
“Backstage production work is not necessarily for everybody. There are certain people that gravitate towards that, and then there are certain people that have zero interest in that whatsoever. He’s just a sponge. He will dig into every single aspect of this business and engage it in every single way you allow him to.
“He’s just incredible, especially at such a young age. He has an incredible mind for it. Johnny Gargano produces matches sometimes, especially with the younger guys for the other shows when we were on the live shows, what they would call the, Coconut Shows in Florida.
“(Tommaso) Ciampa, Candice (LeRae) has done it before. They would produce matches for younger talent coming up, and work with them and sort of mentor them to that next level. Pete Dunne does it. Damian Priest has done it. I know Finn Balor has an interest in it. I think WALTER’s done some of that with guys in the UK.
“I think it’s no different than being an actor and then dabbling in directing a little it. It just makes you think about it from the other side of the camera a bit differently, and then it makes you a better performer.”
WrestleMania 37 week was great for WALTER, who defended his NXT UK Championship successfully on two occasions. At NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, WALTER defeated Tommaso Ciampa in a match that many fans considered an instant classic.
WALTER would go on to pin Rampage for the title at NXT UK: Prelude. He has now held the NXT UK Championship for over 700 days, the longest WWE title reign in modern history.
Speaking of championships, the first title match for WrestleMania Backlash has been confirmed. You can read about that here.
