Top AEW star and former WWE Champion Bryan Danielson wants Kazuchika Okada to join AEW instead of signing with WWE.
Kazuchika Okada is set to be the latest major star to become a free agent this year when he finishes up his run with New Japan Pro Wrestling in the coming weeks.
Following his bout against Hiroshi Tanahashi at NJPW New Beginning in Osaka, Fightful Select reported that Okada is expected to sign with AEW following his run with New Japan.
Some fans are still holding out hope that the former seven-time IWGP World Heavyweight Champion will choose to sign with WWE instead.
In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports, AEW’s Bryan Danielson commented on Okada’s upcoming free agency. He said:
“Of course I want him to come to AEW. Fans all over the world know how great Okada is. Both WWE and AEW are major players, but I hope he comes to AEW.”
On Okada possibly being sent to NXT if he signed with WWE, Bryan said:
“If he went to WWE, they might have him start with (third brand) NXT like Shinsuke (Nakamura) to adapt to the American style, but it’s already completed. Okada doesn’t need that.”
“He’s one of the best wrestlers in the world right now, so he should just come to the United States without changing anything.”
At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18, Kazuchika Okada defeated Bryan Danielson in a rematch to their Forbidden Door 2 initial encounter.
WrestleTalk will provide further updates on Okada’s pending free agency when they become available.
