Earlier on this week, it was reported that WWE was looking to showcase the Cruiserweight division more frequently on NXT TV, with more top stars and time set to be devoted to the division this coming summer.
However, Sean Ross Sapp has now provided an update to his initial report on Twitter, noting that the mass releases from the 205 Live roster yesterday WAS NOT part of the plans for WWE to highlight the division more favourably:
I can tell you that gutting 205 Live was not one of the plans NXT had to further emphasize the Cruiserweight division
It remains to be seen whether the mass releases will impact WWE’s decision to put more of an emphasis on the Cruiserweight division this summer, or if they will be pressing ahead with the slightly depleted roster.
Since the releases, Dave Meltzer has noted that the members of the 205 Live roster were cut yesterday because WWE is looking to sign younger, bigger guys at the moment, which you can read more about by clicking here.
